'A massive honour' and 'very proud' - five Reds react to Liverpool's Greatest rankings
Five current players have described the ‘massive honour’ of taking a place in the Liverpool’s Greatest ranking.
A huge official poll of supporters, former Reds, journalists and a club panel was conducted earlier this year to decide the top 100 men’s stars in history.
The results were released across LFC channels during the summer and have now been published in a new hardback book – available to order here.
Of the present squad, Alisson Becker, Joe Gomez, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk were each included in the countdown.
See their reactions below…
Alisson Becker
“Thank you so much. It feels great. So many top players you can see; being part of the history of this club is a pleasure. There’s no way this list can be fair because there’s so much quality, so many achievements between the players. The contemporary players but also the players from the past as well, so much history. It feels great. A guy from far away, from Novo Hamburgo, being in this list is some achievement. Thank you so much.”
Joe Gomez
“I’ll be honest, it was a bit of a shock. But a massive, massive honour. I don’t take it for granted. It means a lot to me. I feel like being at this club this long, it’s obviously a massive part of my life. It’s something I’ll show my kids one day. Yeah, it means a lot.”
Alexis Mac Allister
“Just in there, hey! 100. A big club like Liverpool, the history, full of players – it’s good to be here.”
Dominik Szoboszlai
“Do you know what feels good in the book? That I’m in front of Macca! Amazing.”
Virgil van Dijk
“Amazing. Eighth on the list of Liverpool’s Greatest. It’s not bad, hey? Just behind the big legend, Alan Hansen. I’ll take that – very proud, happy. Thank you very much. Beautiful.”
