Alexis Mac Allister scored for Argentina as they defeated Switzerland to book a place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.

The Liverpool midfielder supplied the reigning champions’ first goal in a 3-1 victory overnight that required extra-time.

Mac Allister headed home from a Lionel Messi corner ball to net in the 10th minute of the contest in Kansas City.

Switzerland equalised in the second half to level through Dan Ndoye. However, they were reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards when Breel Embolo was sent off for a second bookable offence.

With the match level after 90 minutes, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez then both struck in extra-time to give Argentina the win.

They will now face England on Wednesday evening for a place in the World Cup final.
