Ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City, we invited fans to decide the Reds’ best wins in the fixture in the Premier League era.

They will be aiming to increase their tally of PL victories over City to 24.
Here, as voted by supporters, are the 10 best to date…
No.10 – Liverpool 3-2 Manchester City, September 2000
A typically deft finish from Michael Owen gave the Reds a lead 11 minutes into this encounter at Anfield.
The same duration into the second half, Dietmar Hamann one-upped his teammate with an outrageously good chest-and-volley from 20 yards.
City fought back to equal terms, though, as George Weah slotted in a low effort and Kevin Horlock converted a penalty.
Hamann scored 11 goals in seven years at Liverpool – and two came here.
A minute after it went to 2-2, the defensive midfielder pounced on a long throw into the area and rifled a brilliant low drive into the bottom corner to clinch three points.
No.9 – Liverpool 2-1 Manchester City, March 2015
A challenging 2014-15 season had left Brendan Rodgers’ Reds with little but pride to play for come spring.
They rose to the task in this lunchtime kick-off on home soil, helped by a pair of outstanding long-range strikes.
Jordan Henderson thrashed a brilliant opener into the top corner from more than 20 yards, only for Edin Dzeko to soon restore parity.
Philippe Coutinho ensured the points remained on Merseyside with a superb curler from the left corner of the area 15 minutes from the end.
No.8 – Liverpool 3-0 Manchester City, April 2011
Monday night football at Anfield was magnificent for Kenny Dalglish’s Reds on this occasion.
The iconic Scot was back in the dugout for a second spell and moulding a new-look team featuring January signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
It was the former who shone here, smacking in a finish from distance to put Liverpool ahead on 13 minutes.
Dirk Kuyt doubled the lead past the half-hour and City’s hopes were wiped out wholly a minute later as Carroll met a cross with a fine header for 3-0.
No.7 – Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool, October 2008
Things were looking rather miserable for Rafael Benitez’s Reds at the interval of this meeting.
City led by two goals, Stephen Ireland and Javier Garrido having found the net during the first half.
But a fabulous comeback was sparked by a pair of strikes from Fernando Torres, setting up a grandstand finale.
That was delivered two minutes into stoppage time and in Liverpool’s favour – Kuyt, as was his trademark, in the right place to bury a rebound.
No.6 – Liverpool 6-0 Manchester City, October 1995
Just three days after beating City 4-0 at Anfield in the League Cup, the Reds went two better in the Premier League.
It remains Liverpool’s biggest ever victory over the Manchester club.
Their goals came in quickfire pairs. Ian Rush and Jamie Redknapp in the first five minutes; Robbie Fowler and Neil Ruddock just after the break; and then Fowler and Rush around the hour.
City boss Alan Ball offered a noble summary post-match: “As daft as it may seem, I enjoyed the game. I enjoyed Liverpool. They’re everything I believe in about how the game should be played.
“They totally outclassed us and got the start they wanted. From then on, I had to sit back and admire them.”
No.5 – Liverpool 3-2 Manchester City, April 2014
A three-way title battle between Chelsea, City and Liverpool was delicately poised at the point of this mid-April fixture.
It was a game that matched its stakes, swinging in momentum and full of quality.
In keeping with their habit of the season, the Reds burst out of the blocks to lead 2-0 by half-time thanks to Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel.
David Silva responded and a Glen Johnson own goal balanced the score with half an hour left on the clock.
Back came Rodgers’ side and Anfield erupted when Coutinho seized on a loose clearance and rasped the ball home to win it.

This was one for the Reds, who went to the home of the reigning champions and underscored their credentials with confidence.
Nearest challengers Arsenal had lost at home a day prior and Arne Slot’s Liverpool capitalised fully through a pair of first-half goals down the East Lancs Road.
Mohamed Salah swept them in front amid an inventive corner-kick routine and then teed up Dominik Szoboszlai for goal two.
It was one step closer to league triumph No.20.
No.3 – Manchester City 1-4 Liverpool, November 2015
The early weeks of Jürgen Klopp’s reign on Merseyside fizzed with natural optimism – mostly as a result of the new boss’ rhetoric.
Words very much became actions in this Etihad Stadium encounter.
Liverpool were three up by the 32nd minute in Manchester, courtesy of an Eliaquim Mangala own goal and finishes from Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
Sergio Aguero struck back before half-time but Skrtel put the cherry on the cake for Klopp’s men with a late blast.
No.2 – Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City, November 2019
City had, of course, pipped Liverpool to the 2018-19 championship via quite ridiculous points tallies of 98-97.
A near-perfect beginning to the next campaign gave ample reason to believe the Reds could overturn that balance, however.
And, under the lights at Anfield, they signalled directly to the visitors that they would not be stopped this time around.
Fabinho walloped an opening goal in from distance and Salah quickly made it two for the hosts with a header from Andy Robertson’s peach cross.
Sadio Mane enhanced the advantage to three in front of the Kop in the second half, rendering Bernardo Silva’s goal for City immaterial.
No.1 – Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City, January 2018
An immediate Premier League classic that set the stage for years of tussles for trophies between the two clubs to come.
City arrived at Anfield on this winter afternoon unbeaten in the division and would end the season as champions with 100 points.
But a growing, exciting and ambitious Liverpool under Klopp laid a hefty mark on Pep Guardiola’s team here nevertheless.
After Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pinpoint low strike early on was levelled by Leroy Sane, an exhilarating nine-minute spell saw the Reds go 4-1 up through Firmino, Mane and Salah.
Late responses from Silva and Ilkay Gundogan reduced the deficit but were still in vain.
