AcademyU21s match report: Will Wright scores first Liverpool goal in pre-season finale
Liverpool U21s completed their pre-season fixtures with a 4-0 victory over One Touch FC at the Academy on Thursday.
Two goals in each half gave Rob Page’s side the win against the visiting Nigerian outfit ahead of the start of their Premier League 2 campaign away at Leicester City on Monday night.
Will Wright’s first goal for the Reds set them on their way on 38 minutes, the striker controlling a right-wing cross from Trent Kone-Doherty and delivering a precise low finish.
Within two minutes, Liverpool added a second courtesy of full-back Calvin Ramsay. The Scot had been denied from a left-footed curler earlier in the half but this time guided an effort into the corner from a Lewis Koumas pass.
The Reds changed nine of their outfield players at the break – James McConnell continued until the hour mark – and the new line-up enjoyed success three minutes into the second half.
Kaide Gordon cut in dangerously from his right flank before unleashing a blistering left-footed shot that gave the goalkeeper no chance.
The winger was also involved in the final goal of the game, accepting a pass inside the full-back from McConnell on 57 minutes and picking out Keyrol Figueroa. After his powerful blast at the goalkeeper, Afolami Onanuga tucked away the rebound.
Kieran Morrison placed a free-kick just wide and Gordon volleyed over during the last five minutes, as it ended 4-0 for Page’s charges.
