Harvey Elliott scored to help England into the semi-finals of the U21 European Championship by beating Spain 3-1 in the last eight.

Liverpool midfielder Elliott, who was joined in the Young Lions’ starting XI by Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton, netted his second goal of the tournament to put his team 2-0 up just 15 minutes into Saturday night’s quarter-final in Slovakia.

Quansah played a major role in the goal, too, as the centre-back strode forward and saw a shot from outside the box saved, with Elliott then converting the rebound.

James McAtee had earlier opened the scoring and, although Spain pulled one back with a penalty shortly before half-time, Elliot Anderson secured victory with a spot-kick of his own in stoppage time.

Elliott was withdrawn with 20 minutes remaining, while Quansah and Morton completed the tie.

Holders England now face a semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
