The Reds progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup by prevailing 6-5 in a penalty shootout with Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night, after the fourth-round tie was 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

That victory – the fifth in a row in all competitions – set up a home clash with AFC Bournemouth in mid-December.

"The boys were buzzing," Ngumoha told Sky Sports afterwards. "I think it was a good game.

"We played well, we dug deep and it was a great result. We're happy to get through to the quarter-finals."

On the squad's confidence, the 18-year-old continued: "It's top. We go into every game knowing that we can put on a show for the fans but also come home with the three points.

"Now the focus is the big game on Sunday against Arsenal.

"I think there's no better feeling than winning games and wins upon wins upon wins. Confidence is high but we can never get too complacent."

Andoni Iraola made seven changes for the meeting with Xabi Alonso's side.

Ngumoha was one of those players inserted into the line-up – his sixth start under the Basque head coach.

"I can't thank the gaffer and the coaching staff enough," said the No.73. "And not to just put trust in me but also Trey [Nyoni], [Lewis] Koumas, James McConnell today.

"We showed the boss why he puts the faith in us. It was a good game."
