Rafaela Borggrafe believes Liverpool FC Women can be the perfect place to help her development as a goalkeeper.

Rafaela, a very warm welcome to Liverpool Football Club. What does it mean to you to be here?

Thank you. This means a lot. This is a big club with a big history and I want to be part of that – we never walk alone. I want to have fun playing football and [I] am so happy to now be a part of the Liverpool family.

You are the second German to arrive at the club this summer, following Florian Wirtz in the men’s team. We have a proud association at this club with Germany, and with Jürgen Klopp in particular as well. How honoured are you to follow them?

It is a big honour. The men’s team have won so many trophies and now it’s the women’s turn to get trophies too. I’m so happy to be here and I want to win something. Liverpool has a big meaning in England and all over the world. I’m happy to be here and we want to win trophies – that’s the adventure.

You have built up a strong reputation as a goalkeeper in Germany. I know you really enjoyed your time with Freiburg and you will certainly miss a lot of people there…

I spent 12 years with Freiburg but I think this is the best step for me, to come to Liverpool. I’m happy – and a little bit sad to leave friends – but I want to get better and I think this is the best place for me to be here to work hard, get better and make the next big steps for my career.

How excited are you by this new challenge and moving to a new country as well?

Yes, it’s different to Germany and I will have to get used to speaking more English than German now. I am here now and I’m excited. I made my decision to come here, I told my family I was coming to England and everybody was happy for me with my decision to come to Liverpool.

You are joining an exciting, young team – how much are you looking forward to helping them grow even further?

Hopefully, yes. The club is growing and I want to grow with them. We will work hard together. Hopefully we will score lots of goals and the team will help me to defend my goal. We want to be successful. I want to win trophies here.

How much are you looking forward to getting to know your teammates and coming every day to this fantastic AXA Melwood Training Centre?

The facilities are fantastic here and I have met some of my teammates already, and they are so friendly and have made me feel welcome. It just feels normal and it feels like family.

The Liverpool fans love goalkeepers – how much are you looking forward to meeting them?

I am really looking forward to meeting them. I have heard every player has a song, so I’m looking forward to seeing what song I get. It is the best motivation and we want to win for the fans, the team and the whole club. Hopefully I get a song.

How much are you looking forward to seeing the city as well?

I’ve been here twice so far. The first time I had a look around but I didn’t get to see the whole city yet, so I’m really looking forward to that. It's a little bit different to what I was used to in Germany but I’m excited. I hope the girls will show me the best coffee shops in the city.

Finally, Rafaela, you said you didn’t need to have many conversations about joining Liverpool as it was an immediate ‘yes’ to come to this club – why was that?

Simple, it’s Liverpool FC.
