Olivia Smith has been voted Liverpool FC Women's Standard Chartered Player of the Month for March.

The Canada international picked up the prize for the fourth time during her incredible debut season as a Red.

Smith claimed the most votes in a recent supporter poll on Liverpoolfc.com, beating teammates Taylor Hinds and Fuka Nagano in second and third respectively.

After collecting the trophy again at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, Smith said: "It means the world to me but this is not possible without my teammates putting in the work that they have.

"I'm super-grateful to the fans. It really is an honour, especially at this club because it's such a big club, and to share it with my dad as well as this is his favourite club as well.

"Our fans are amazing, just the energy that they give us every game."

Smith was a starter in four of Liverpool's five fixtures in the month and helped Amber Whiteley get off to an excellent start in her spell as interim head coach.

After contributing in the away wins at Crystal Palace and Arsenal, the No.11 scored twice against Manchester United to secure the Reds' first Barclays Women's Super League victory at Anfield.

Smith opened the scoring on that memorable occasion under the lights in L4 and wrapped up the points by adding her team's third goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

She continued: "I think the shift in formation suited us really well with all of our individual qualities matched together.

"The FA Cup win at Arsenal was a great feeling, especially with our fans down there supporting us – they were unreal.

"The Manchester United game was special with my family being there and history was definitely made. It was special to score twice and then the penalty in front of the Kop in front of our fans.

"I looked up to my family when I scored, so it was such a great feeling. I would say that night is up there with one of the best I've had in football so far."

Smith netted her ninth goal of the season with the opener in the win at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

The Reds are preparing for their final outing at St Helens Stadium in 2024-25 when Tottenham Hotspur visit on Sunday, with Smith determined to finish the term strongly.

The 20-year-old said: "I think the drive and belief that Amber gives us has helped us a lot. Training has been going well and the team looks great.

"We want to get the three points on Sunday but we know that they are a top side as well. We never underestimate any team we play against but we are looking really sharp in training.

"The team spirit is amazing – it's family, it's love, it's everything."
