Trent Alexander-Arnold may return from injury for Wednesday’s Merseyside derby but Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez when they meet Everton at Goodison Park.

Alexander-Arnold has missed the Reds’ last two games while Gomez was forced off in the early stages of Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

During his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning, Arne Slot said: “Trent has done parts of training sessions with us. Not ‘sessions’, a session, yesterday.

“So, let’s see how he is today. He will train, hopefully, with us again and then we have to decide if we take him to the game, yes or no.

“Joe, it’s the same leg where he had the injury last time. We are still assessing that but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.”

When asked if it is a concern that Gomez’s issue is in the same leg as the injury that ruled him out of 10 matches prior to his comeback at Home Park, Slot replied: “That’s mostly a concern.”
