InterviewLily Woodham's Leicester preview: 'We know what we need to do to improve'
Lily Woodham believes the performance levels in the first half against Everton can offer great encouragement to Liverpool FC Women moving forward.
A clinical finish from Cornelia Kapocs opened the scoring for Gareth Taylor's side in last weekend's season-opener with the Toffees at Anfield.
The Reds went on to create a host of chances, hitting the woodwork twice, but saw the game slip away either side of half-time as the visitors claimed a 4-1 victory.
Wales international Woodham was making her official Liverpool debut on the day and, despite the defeat, feels there were plenty of positives to take away from the contest.
"We've looked back at the game," she told Liverpoolfc.com. "The first-half performance was really good from us, and we were really pleased with ourselves. The second half was a little bit different, but we've looked back on it, and we know what we need to do to improve for the next game."
That next assignment sees Taylor's side head to King Power Stadium to face Leicester City in the Barclays Women's Super League on Sunday (12pm BST kick-off).
The Foxes, under interim head coach Rick Passmoor, were also beaten in their opening match, 4-0 away at Manchester United, with both teams therefore eager to open their account for 2025-26.

Watch on YouTubeOn the amount of chances the team created against Everton...
We had chances and that's the positive. We created and we got into those moments and it is just about the next step now and see defensively what we can be better at.
On learning from the second half…
We have spoken about it but it wasn't a negative conversation. We've obviously looked at things and we know we need to do better, but we will improve that and in the next game we need to do what we did in the first half for 90 minutes.
On her pride at making her debut at Anfield…
It was something that I will never forget. I had goosebumps walking out, seeing the fans for the first time and hearing You'll Never Walk Alone was special. It was a real proud moment in terms of it being my debut and at Anfield. My family were there at Anfield and I'm sure there were a few tears. I'm playing for such an amazing club, and we want to just make sure this club goes in the right direction and we win the next few games.

On working under head coach Taylor and his staff…
I'm really loving it. I think it's a learning [experience] every day and we are playing a different way to what the team were used to, but it has been incredible and they are all really helpful and easy to talk to. It has been really enjoyable.
On the squad being strengthened during the transfer window…
We managed to get a lot of new faces in, which is great. Everyone has been so welcoming and friendly to me especially, I've felt really welcomed and I hope everyone else who has come in has felt that as well. Everyone has just been really friendly around the building and the city as well.
On Sunday's trip to Leicester…
We are really excited for the game and we want to bounce back. It will be another test for us, but we are really excited to get going again.
