In our latest guest blog featuring Liverpool-supporting musicians, GIRLBAND! member Georgie recounts her association with the Reds...

I have been a Liverpool fan since I can remember.

My uncle was actually a professional footballer, so my family are big football fans. His name was Bob Newton, a massive, barrel-chested, burly, old-school centre-forward. He played in England in the 1970s for teams such as Huddersfield Town and Hartlepool United but also went over to America to play.

There are some great photos of him with football legends like George Best from his playing days. So, I guess growing up hearing his stories and going to his BBQs with a football grew my love for the game. Uncle Bob was friends with the scout at Sheffield United and managed to get some tickets for when Liverpool were visiting. I was so excited until I realised I was in the home stand at Bramall Lane with my bright yellow Liverpool top. Thankfully I was only eight years of age!

I truly became a Liverpool fan due to my mum, who apparently put Uncle Bob to the test growing up. There are other Reds in my family too. My brother-in-law Ryan, who also played football at a level, and my nephew, who, at three years apart, was like a sibling to me. Growing up we would watch games together at each other's houses, including the 2005 Champions League final in our oversized shirts, which is still a moment I will never forget.

I also remember the three of us going to the park all in different Liverpool shirts from different eras. We'd have a kickaround for hours and Ryan taught us both a lot about Liverpool legends and the game itself. I remember in the winter, we put him in goal and I pelted the ball, which split his finger open! The three of us would chat all day about Liverpool, who our favourite players were and tactics after Sunday dinners as if we were all managers. We'd also talk about how much we disliked Manchester United, of course! Liverpool was just next level for us. It was the team that we all watched religiously.

I was a huge Michael Owen fan when I was very small. I would only start eating potatoes when my mum told me they were Owen's favourite food! Every Christmas I was bought a Liverpool shirt from my grandparents which would never be taken off. My mum would want me in Sunday best and I made a deal with her. The only time I would wear a skirt was on a Sunday but only if I could wear my Liverpool shirt and trainers with it.

When I was at school Liverpool were my pride and joy: pencil case, badges, the lot. We'd split the five-a-side teams into who supported who – it got quite heated! Being the only girl in that environment at school too made it all the more interesting and fun. I'd been prepped by my family so I could dish out all the facts and banter that surrounded the wonderful game that is football.

It's funny as I'm not actually from Liverpool. I'm from Mansfield and also have a love of the Stags. But, due to family, it's as if Liverpool chose me. It's wonderful to see fans around the world share the same love for a club soaked in history, the ups and downs and the passion, wherever they're from.

The current team has achieved so much. Under [Jürgen] Klopp first, of course, and now under Arne [Slot] by winning the Premier League. They've been a joy to watch this season, and it would be great if we could really take over and dominate next year! Maybe a Champions League and another Premier League title so we can cement ourselves as the top dogs of Europe. I think it'll be exciting to see what Slot does next.

I'm part of an all-female alternative three-piece named GIRLBAND!. We've just released a single called Talk Me Down and made a music video with my friend Bella Ramsey (from The Last Of Us). That was a real highlight and so much fun. We love having fun and making music. We are lucky to have had some amazing live opportunities recently in Europe and the UK and we have an exciting festival season coming up, including Glastonbury, which we are mega-excited about.

We also have some new singles too, including a fun T. Rex cover. I hope we can come back to Liverpool soon. We did Sound City last year and it was mega! The people of the city really love their music and football.
