NewsInternationals round-up: Isak plays, Robertson assists, Ngumoha scores and more
See our round-up of Liverpool players’ involvement in Saturday’s international fixtures…
Alexander Isak made his first appearance following injury in Sweden’s defeat by Switzerland in World Cup qualifying.
The striker, who had not played since sustaining an issue during the Reds’ Champions League win at Eintracht Frankfurt three-and-a-half weeks ago, was brought off the bench just after the hour of his side’s 4-1 loss in Geneva.
Andy Robertson and Giorgi Mamardashvili were also in World Cup qualifying action.
Robertson provided an assist in Scotland’s 3-2 loss away to Greece, for whom Kostas Tsimikas started.
However, Scotland can still secure an automatic place at next summer’s finals as they sit just one point behind Denmark, who they host at Hampden Park in their final Group C qualifier on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Mamardashvili’s Georgia were beaten 4-0 by Spain.
At youth level, Rio Ngumoha scored a stunning goal as an England U19s team also including Trey Nyoni routed Latvia 7-0 in a European Championship qualifier.
Ngumoha put the Young Lions ahead early on by cutting inside off the left flank and curling unstoppably into the top corner. The forward completed the 90 minutes, while Nyoni was substituted midway through the second half.
Finally, Keyrol Figueroa netted inside the opening minute of USA U20s’ 2-1 friendly win over Costa Rica.
