Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate played a key role for France in a winning effort on Tuesday evening during the latest round of international fixtures.

The centre-back featured for Les Bleus in Group D of World Cup qualifying in Europe, and helped secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Iceland at Parc des Princes.

Hugo Ekitike also stepped off the bench in the sixth minute of added time at the end of the contest as France clinched the points having earlier been reduced to 10 men during the second half.

Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai both started Hungary’s narrow 3-2 home defeat by Portugal in Group F at Puskas Arena.

Earlier in the day, Mohamed Salah was also involved in World Cup qualifying, playing 94 minutes for Egypt in a 0-0 away draw with Burkina Faso.

In U21 Euros qualifying, Trent Kone-Doherty was handed a debut at that level for the Republic of Ireland, coming on as a half-time substitute to assist in a 1-0 win against Andorra.

Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi, meanwhile, was selected to start for Hungary U21s as they played out a 1-1 draw with Lithuania.

At U19s level, Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni were half-time substitutes for England, stepping off the bench in a 4-1 success over the Netherlands.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Alexis Mac Allister played in Argentina’s 1-0 loss to Ecuador, while Alisson Becker was selected in goal for Brazil, who were beaten 1-0 by Bolivia.

However, both countries have already secured qualification for next summer’s World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico and the USA.
