AcademyFormat explained: Liverpool set for Premier League 2 elimination play-offs
Liverpool U21s are set to compete in the Premier League 2 end-of-season play-offs.
The Reds concluded their regular-season schedule at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, suffering a 5-1 defeat.
That result meant Rob Page’s team ended with 35 points from their 20 matches.
Currently placed sixth in the table, they are guaranteed a top-16 finish that qualifies clubs for the PL2 elimination play-offs.
Liverpool’s final position and last-16 opponents will be confirmed when all regular-season games have been completed on Friday April 17.
The play-offs are arranged based on standings in the regular season, with the side in first facing the side in 16th, the team in second meeting the team in 15th, and so on.
Games in the play-offs are one-leg knockout ties, with the higher-ranked club at home in the last 16.
Extra-time and penalties will be used as required.
