Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has been placed in interim charge of Fenerbahce ahead of the clubs meeting next week.

A fan favourite during his time with the Reds from 2006 to 2012, the Dutchman made 285 appearances and scored 71 goals.

Kuyt had a three-year playing spell with Turkish club Fenerbahce following his departure from Anfield and later hung up his boots in 2017.

Now in coaching, Kuyt was hired as assistant manager to Ismail Kartal at Fenerbahce during the past summer.

Kartal resigned from his position at the helm earlier this week and Kuyt takes interim charge “until a new head coach is appointed”, said the club.

Liverpool travel to Turkiye to face Fenerbahce next Wednesday (November 4) for their fourth match of the Champions League league phase.
