Virgil van Dijk presented Fabio Cannavaro with his shirt in a meeting between defensive legends past and present.
Liverpool captain Van Dijk skippered the Netherlands to a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan – a victory earned by two Cody Gakpo penalties – in their final World Cup warm-up game in New York on Monday.
Cannavaro, who captained Italy to World Cup glory in 2006 and won the Ballon d’Or that same year, is now head coach of Uzbekistan and after the friendly, the iconic former centre-back was gifted Van Dijk’s match-worn jersey.
