Reaction'A big one, very special' - Trent Alexander-Arnold on winner at Leicester
‘Very, very special,’ was how Trent Alexander-Arnold described his match-winning moment for Liverpool at Leicester City.
The No.66 made his first appearance since March 11 following an injury lay-off by entering the action from the bench in the second half at King Power Stadium on Sunday.
And with the Premier League clash goalless, Alexander-Arnold fired in a left-footed finish from a rebound when both Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota had hit the woodwork.
Arne Slot’s team went on to secure the 1-0 result over the Foxes, which means they are now three points away from being confirmed as champions for 2024-25.
Alexander-Arnold gave his immediate post-match reaction to Sky Sports. Read the full Q&A below…
On whether today was one of his best moments in the Liverpool shirt…
For sure. I’ve had some good moments in this stadium, to be honest, scored a few goals here. Being so close to winning the title now and my first game back from injury as well, it was an important game for me. I was excited to be back, I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the last few weeks to get back fit. I’m eager to play and I was happy to contribute with the goal. It was a big one.
On scoring and celebrating in similar fashion in a 4-0 win at Leicester in 2019…
Yeah, very similar indeed. I’m pretty sure that’s the first left-foot goal in my career – it has taken a few years but I got there in the end. That’s probably the one type of goal I’ve been missing but I saved it for the right time, being so close to winning the league now. One win away now, it’s very close. And to do it especially with fans here as well is a very, very special moment.
On celebrating with the away end after full-time…
He [Virgil van Dijk] pushed me to the front to soak it in, to get up close and personal. The away fans are always amazing. The fans have been outstanding again this season, they have pushed us every game until the final minutes and they have done that again today. They helped us win the game. You can still hear them now celebrating. As much as we do it for ourselves and for our families, we do it for the fans as well – they’re the ones that travel to games and spend the money to come and watch us play. So it’s the least they deserve, to see us give 100 per cent on the pitch and win games. To be so close to sealing for some of us a second league title, and for a lot of us a first league title, but especially in front of fans – which is what we’ve been missing – is very special.
On his future…
Like I’ve said all season, I’m not going to speak on my situation, I’m not going to go into details. But these days like today are always special: scoring goals, playing, winning games, being close to winning titles as well as being in title races, they are special moments that will live with me forever and I’m glad to be a part of them.
