Alexis Mac Allister believes he is currently enjoying the best personal form of his career, thanks to the help of his Liverpool teammates.

The midfielder was a mainstay of Arne Slot’s team as the Reds claimed the Premier League title in 2024-25, wrapping up first place with four games of the season still to play.

Mac Allister made 35 appearances in the top flight during his second campaign with the club and his consistent performances were enhanced by five goals and five assists.

The Argentinian was arguably never better than the April run-in to the championship being clinched; as well as stunning finishes against Fulham and then Tottenham Hotspur, he was named the division’s Player of the Month.

“To be honest, I’m really happy with the season I’ve had. And I’d say yes, I think I’m in the best period of my career. I enjoy it a great deal,” said the No.10, who missed the final two matches of the term due to injury.

“Overall, I’d say it’s because I’m at such a big club here at Liverpool where I can show what I’m capable of. I think that’s the most significant thing.

“But I also say that for me, the most important thing is my teammates. Without them, I wouldn’t be anyone because I’m not an individual player. I’m not someone who will go past three or four players and score 20 goals a season.

“I really rely on my teammates and in this side I’ve found players who have helped me a great deal both in an attacking and defensive sense, so I’m hugely grateful to them.”

A Premier League winner’s medal is a new addition to Mac Allister’s enviable collection, which already included World Cup and Copa America honours with his country.

Asked to describe his emotions at the moment the Reds were crowned, he said: “The first thing that came to mind was all that we’d done over the season.

“It’s not at all easy to win a Premier League and it takes a long time. That’s why I think people in general always prioritise it. It’s that whole journey of ups and downs, moments where we’ve had to overcome things, so that was kind of what came to mind.

“Then there’s my family and all those people who have always helped me.”

Mac Allister continued: “I always said that at the start of the season I didn’t get the feeling that we were going to win the league perhaps with the ease that we have done.

“Not because we’re not a great team or we didn’t have the squad but because we were in a process of transition. Jürgen [Klopp] was with us – well, I was only with him for a year – but he was at the club for eight or nine years if I’m not mistaken and for many players it was a significant change.

“Despite that, we found a way to win and I think that’s really important. I also think that both the manager and the team saw that there was still a lot to improve on in terms of our playing style.

“So, the future looks bright and hopefully this can be the start of something big.”
