'A special moment' - Finn Inglethorpe on scoring his first Liverpool hat-trick

Finn Inglethorpe relished the ‘special moment’ of scoring his first hat-trick in a Liverpool shirt.

The U18s captain bagged that landmark treble on Saturday as the Reds beat Sunderland 7-0 at the Kirkby Academy.

His latest haul took Inglethorpe to 10 goals overall in 2026-27 so far and the striker’s target is to increase that exponentially.

“It’s a good moment,” he told Liverpoolfc.com post-match. “They don’t come around too often.

“But to get one especially in such a good team performance was a special moment.

“[I’ll] try to get as many as I can [during the season]. Keep taking it game by game and see where it takes me.”

U18s head coach Simon Wiles appointed Inglethorpe as the team’s skipper ahead of the campaign getting under way.

“I’m really enjoying it,” said the 18-year-old. “It’s different because I hadn’t really done it too often. This season, I’m really enjoying it.”

There was plenty to enjoy versus the Black Cats, with a goalless opening 45 minutes followed by a prolific second period.

Inglethorpe it was who broke the deadlock in the league fixture and his eventual hat-trick was supplemented by goals from Erik Farkas (two), Daniel Majekodunmi and Lenix Conde.

“One hundred per cent that was coming, it was definitely coming,” he said of snapping a four-game run without a win.

“That was a complete performance – the back line was very, very solid and I think that gave us a massive help so we could do our stuff up the pitch.”
